NC ATA
Delegate’s NEWSLETTER Terry L. Roush, ATA Delegate 5006 Stonegate
Ct., Greensboro, NC 27406 (336)
674-8655 troush@att.net

I hope you all had a good
Thanksgiving and are ready for Christmas.
Jackie and I put lots of miles on the motorhome and Jeep again in 2008
traveling to shoots in NC and other Southern Zone states including the Southern
Zone telephonic in Bostic. We also
enjoyed two Satellite Grands and another trip to the ATA Homegrounds in Sparta,
IL for the Grand American.
If you have not had a chance to
shoot at our Homegrounds since the new building was finished, you should check
it out. We now have a magnificent 40 ft
x 100 ft building with a 14 ft x 100 ft covered porch. Plan a trip over to shoot the Dogwood Open
next spring and take a look. A
significant amount of money is still needed to pay off the construction loan.
If you have been waiting for some positive action before sending your
tax-deductible donation to the NCTHOF building fund, now is the time.
Congratulations to the State Team
Members, the High Average Leaders and everyone that competed and achieved a
personal goal. Also congratulations to Bill Howe who, once again, shot the most
registered targets during the target year.
Bill shot 25,500 registered targets in 2008. This year there was a
slight increase in the number of shooters who shot 10,000 or more registered
targets. Twenty-three NC shooters
became members of this year’s “10,000 Club”.
Shooter score statistics included in this newsletter are also on the
NCTA web-site www.nctrap.com.
Chuck and Sandie Patterson have
done an excellent job managing the State Team points system for the last few
years. As most of you know, after Chuck
retired he and Sandie moved back to California. They were consummate volunteers and they are already being missed. I know everyone was sad to see them go and
are wishing them the best of luck in California – and hoping they will be back
to visit!
Tom Pitts volunteered to take over
the State Team points system earlier in the year and has been doing a great
job. I know it is not an easy task and
I encourage shoot management to keep Tom updated with shoot points results.
I would again like to thank Doug
McKinney for leading the SCTP youth program as the NC State Director. NC SCTP teams again enjoyed competing at
this year’s Grand American with the guidance and help of Doug, Kim and the
other SCTP coaches and volunteers. The
ATA has announced an exciting, new, ATA sponsored, youth shooting program
called AIM. Details of this new program
can be found at www.shootata.com.
While some SCTP teams and coaches will stay with the SCTP program, Doug and
Kim will be the NC State Directors for the AIM program and are currently
working with ATA Youth Programs Director, Edie Reynolds, to transition to that
program. If you can donate money, guns,
ammo and/or time to this worthwhile program or would like additional
information, please contact Doug or Kim.
I would like to thank and
congratulate all the North Carolina gun club managers and shooters for another
good year. In state, we threw over a million targets (1,005,675) during the
2008 extended target year. If we don’t
count the targets shot in the two added months in 2008, we were at
882,875. That number is not too bad
with all of the fuel, ammo and other cost increases last year.
I would also like to recognize the
NCTA and HOF BOD members for their leadership and hard work. They have planned
at least 5 major shoots at the NC Homegrounds for 2009. Billy Thigpen is doing an outstanding job as
NCTA President as is Bob Keever as the NCTHOF president. Thanks also to all the
volunteers that help make the Homegrounds shoots successful. In addition, I would like to recognize Greg
High for his years of service on the NCTA BOD and his time as NCTA President.
Please remember that donations to
the North Carolina Trapshooters Hall of Fame, Inc. are tax deductible. If you
are looking for another charity for a tax deduction this year, the NCTHOF will
certainly put your money to good use.
Donations can be sent to: NCTHOF, %Ken Duncan, 540 Junie Beauchamp Rd,
Advance, NC 27006. The NCTHOF BOD will certainly appreciate your personal
contributions, as well as, any fund raising ideas or suggestions you may have.
Don’t forget to explore www.tarheeltrap.com from time to time.
Freddy Redmon, who maintains the TarHeel web site, does a great job with shoot
dates, winner’s lists, information, pictures and the trap shooting chat
room. Thanks to Jim Wilson for housing
the server and paying the electricity bill.
In closing, Jackie and I would
like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah and Happy
New Year. We hope 2009 will be a great year for everyone. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve
as your ATA Delegate this year. Please contact me if you have questions or need
assistance.
